The Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 Quarry Hunslet ‘Alice’ Returns in Dinorwic Quarry Red
Thanks to an overwhelming response, we're thrilled to announce a second production run of the ever-popular Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 Scale model of the Quarry Hunslet Steam Locomotive ‘Alice’, presented in its iconic Dinorwic Quarry Red livery.
Small but mighty, ‘Alice’ is barely bigger than a 9V battery, yet this powerhouse is loaded with finely crafted features. A diecast boiler and running plate give it weight and presence, while individually fitted details – from handrails to brake shoes to cab controls – make it a miniature marvel. The 0-4-0ST wheel arrangement glides smoothly thanks to metal bearings and is driven by a powerful coreless motor with flywheel. It's ready for DCC conversion with a 6-pin decoder socket, and NEM coupling pockets are fitted at both ends.

The Legend of ‘Alice’
Born in the golden age of Welsh slate quarries, ‘Alice’ is more than a locomotive – she’s a survivor. Built in 1902 as the eighth Alice Class Quarry Hunslet, she worked tirelessly across the heights of the Dinorwic Quarry, eventually settling at the Australia level, some 1,800 feet above sea level.
Retired by 1960 and left abandoned after decades of service, ‘Alice’ was gradually dismantled for parts – until a determined preservation effort brought her back to life. Through the dedication of enthusiasts and the support of the Bala Lake Railway, ‘Alice’ was fully restored and now steams once again alongside her sister engines, a testament to the resilience and charm of the Quarry Hunslets.
