Hornby Dublo LNER Class A4 2509 ‘Silver Link’ – 90th Anniversary Collection
In celebration of 90 years since its historic debut, the Hornby Dublo LNER Class A4 2509 ‘Silver Link’ is presented as part of the 90th Anniversary Collection. This 00 gauge model is constructed from diecast metal and features a 5-pole skew wound motor to deliver enhanced traction and pulling power. The model also includes a flickering firebox and is DCC-ready with a 21-pin socket for easy integration with digital control systems. Supplied with an accessory pack containing driver and fireman figures, this model blends classic railway heritage with modern detailing, making it a standout addition for any steam-era layout.
The original locomotive was the first of the ‘A4’ Class to enter service in September 1935 and was primarily assigned to the prestigious ‘Silver Jubilee’ express service between London King’s Cross and Newcastle. It was repainted in LNER Garter Blue in December 1937. However, this livery was replaced during the Second World War, when all ‘A4s’ were repainted in plain black and had their streamlined side skirting removed. After the war, the blue livery was reinstated.
Renumbered 14 in June 1946 and subsequently 60014 under British Railways, the locomotive completed its working life at King’s Cross ‘Top Shed’, the same depot it had originally been assigned to. It was officially withdrawn from service in December 1962.
