Hornby Dublo LNER Class A4 2510 ‘Quicksilver’ – 90th Anniversary Collection
The Hornby Dublo LNER ‘A4’ Class 4-6-2 2510 ‘Quicksilver’ is released as part of the 90th Anniversary Collection, commemorating nine decades of British steam engineering excellence. Finished in an eye-catching silver livery, this model faithfully replicates the sleek lines and commanding presence of the original locomotive. Designed for the modern railway enthusiast, the model features a flickering firebox, is DCC-ready with a 21-pin socket for digital conversion, and includes a 5-pole skew wound motor that ensures strong pulling performance. Weighing 480 grams and supplied with an accessories pack containing crew figures and additional detailing parts, this model combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary model railway technology.
The real ‘Quicksilver’ entered service in September 1935, originally allocated to King’s Cross shed in London. The locomotive was repainted in LNER Garter Blue in May 1938, but during the austerity period of World War II, it received a plain black livery in October 1943. In October 1947, the engine returned to its Garter Blue finish and was renumbered 15 under LNER. Following nationalisation, it became 60015 under British Railways in 1948 and was later repainted in BR blue with black and white lining. A double chimney was fitted in August 1957. The locomotive remained in service at King’s Cross ‘Top Shed’ until its withdrawal in April 1963.
